The Hamasien plateau overlooking Forte Baldissera. The fort, named after Italian general Antonio Baldissera, who governed Eritrea, was a military post strategically built on the hilltop site of the historic village of Beit Meka’e, forcing the local inhabitants to resettle nearby.
